Service Provider Selection in the ESG Era

Interest in sustainable investment in Europe has seen a dramatic increase with ESG product inflows representing around half of all European fund sales in 2020. This growth, teamed with increasing regulation to improve transparency around sustainable investments has compelled managers to sign up to a range of industry initiatives, including the UN Principles for Responsible Investing and Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).

And, as the introduction of the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) steers the industry away from the voluntary monitoring of sustainability towards structured, regulated reporting processes, managers are having to incorporate ESG risk factors into the investment decision-making process. Additionally, for UK firms that wish to sell products to European clients, there will be a requirement to comply with both SFDR and TCFD disclosure reporting requirements, adding additional complexity and cost to operating models.

In the light of these developments, and in response to demands from asset owners and investors for improved standardised reporting and high quality ESG data, asset managers and asset owners are in the process of making significant enhancements to their operating models to support sustainable investment activities, throwing a spotlight onto service provider selection and due diligence criteria.

Please join us on Thursday 17th June 2021 at 14.00 London for an e-seminar, the final in a series of three, hosted by IDA Ireland as we consider how ESG might change manager selection of service providers.
