About the e-Seminar

Many believe that the current crisis will likely lead to a review of business practices across multiple industries, including fund management. Additionally, given the particularly peripatetic nature of the European Fund Industry reform is probable.

The e-seminar and White Paper will therefore explore what that reform might mean for the Irish Funds Industry.

In particular, the e-Seminar will debate whether an all-Ireland approach to asset management may develop and indeed may be encouraged.

  • Might the Fund Industry want shorter, regionalised supply chains in preference to the globalisation trend of the last few decades?
  • Might the timing be right to revisit the 2008 announcement by Ireland’s then Finance Minister Brian Cowen that enabled Northern Ireland to provide additional financial skills to companies based in the IFSC, via a relaxation of the minimum activities’ regulations relating to 0% withholding tax and regulatory status in RoI?

The main themes that this e-Seminar will explore are;

  • Portfolio & Risk Management – Brexit may eventually bring changes to EU delegation rules, and the Covid-19 crisis might well result in an even greater focus on risk management in Irish Fund Management. Can Northern Ireland exploit its post Brexit status (of being part of the UK but maintaining its current strong links with Ireland) to work collaboratively with Irish domiciled funds in portfolio and/or risk management in future?
  • Service Provision: is it time to consider ‘re-shoring’? – It is likely that the Funds Industry will apply greater focus to sustainability, including shorter supply chains, as a result of the current crisis.
  • Technology: how will Ireland’s Fintech Innovators help to shape the Funds Industry? – Ireland, North and South, is renowned for innovation and entrepreneurship. As we accelerate towards increased digitisation, what opportunities exist for Ireland’s Fintech innovators to shape the future of the Funds Industry?
